The LA fires appear to have done something I genuinely thought was impossible: getting left NIMBYs to admit that when you have significant demand from high-income people for housing, and not enough market rate units, rent goes up! Supply and demand is apparently real after all.

If only they had used an extensive period of low interest rates to allow the construction of a lot of new housing units. Alas
Don’t be silly Jordan, rents only go up: wealthy people moving into a tight market without new supply causes rents to go up, but do does building new housing for wealthy people. You see, wealthy people moving into an area causes rents to increase whether you build or not! /s
It's especially fun when individual buyers get to compete with private equity real estate firms packing massive capital Housing, a necessity on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs has become a commodity on the investment side—with shareholders' needs foremost.
5 - 8 years for Los Angeles planning, planning commission, and Coastal commission. Just pay $15,000 PER MONTH rent on top of all those costs, it's not a problem /s. Maybe there'll be NIMBYs objecting to the new permits (+ 2 years) and CEQA lawsuits (+ 4 years)
Did you see the houses now renting for $29,000- insanity and greed already running the show.I’m guessing they were likely Airbnb units, but could be wrong.
You guys are trying to engineer politics to support people who can afford to move wherever they want while people are freezing to death or getting displaced by fires caused by other terrible liberal policies
