I’ve seen some handwringing about the budgetary impacts of this on CA cities. The good news—at least for SF—is there is so much waste in the budget that you could eliminate 1/3 of it without anyone noticing a degradation in service.
In a shocking 9-0 decision, the US Supreme Court this morning ended California's post-Prop-13 era of insanely high fees on housing development. Now it's up to housing advocates to remake fee law in their own image. latimes.com/politics/story/2…

I agree on office vacancy increasing, tax base decreasing, and need for downtown reinvention/rejuvenation — but SF budget has far outpaced pop and inflation growth (haven't looked up pension obligations etc, assume eat up big chunk) so I'm not resigned to future of chaos and pain
