Update -- a statement from @speakerjohnson just in: “I believe the life of every single child has inestimable dignity and value. That is why I support IVF treatment, which has been a blessing for many moms and dads who have struggled with fertility."

If this law passes, no clinics will be able to operate anywhere in the country. I feel like I’m losing my mind reading coverage of these statements. It’s in the Republican Party platform!
As a person who can read the title of bills and knows what words mean, this is a deeply personal issue to me and I am really hoping that America’s journalists can muster a modicum of basic accuracy as they report on it.
I’m sincerely happy to take yes for an answer if the whole GOP has changed their minds about fetal personhood but … have they? Are they pulling these bills? Are they changing the platform? Is Heritage taking the abortion stuff out of Project 2025? What’s actually happening?

It didn't ban IVF though. You are just reading that into the bill. The Alabama decision doesn't even ban IVF. It just allows parents to seek civil damages if their human embryos where treated recklessly. It explicitly refused to define embryos as children for criminal law. Why can't you be honest? I lost a little respect for you this week. Used to view you as 100% honest. nytimes.com/interactive/2024…

You can be in favor of IVF while also thinking that embryos need to be treated more ethically.

If the Alabama legislature doesn’t supersede this decision by statute, we will know how serious they are about their “positions.”

Where is his statement on the “lives” of the unused embryos?

He must have found a better chapter and verse that deals with ivf in the new testament to change his mind

I doubt that any platforms or bills will be changed. Republicans are just panicked about how this issue might affect November's election. They could easily change their position after November on IVF and probably will.
