It seems like Florida’s brightline train and pointless streetcars (like the h street one in dc) are two sides of the same bad train design coin. Trains are valuable when they have dedicated right of way. If you try to mix train and car traffic you are going to have a bad time.

Some of the Brightline crossings are truely ludicrous. I do agree with @binarybits that it's worth talking about more. progressiverailroading.com/f…

If you prioritize speed you can make a train that’s fast but ludicrously dangerous. If you prioritize safety you can make a train that’s safe but ludicrously slow. To get both fast and safe you need to invest in bridges and tunnels and stuff.

Tim the train predates these crossings! The public added them with no thought to safety!
It’s very possible the fault lies with the road designers rather than the railroad per se. But lots of cities have either grade-separated or shut down lines as their populations grew right? Florida doesn’t have to just accept trains killing people forever.

The train has priority here, it's the cars who have a less valuable road
Yes. For the 100 people who have died in brightline crashes it was a LOT less valuable.

Trains should be underground
